Frequently Asked Questions
Will vinyl fencing or railing turn yellow?
Some of the cheaper brands may yellow with age but the better vinyl will not. TiO2 is the active ingredient in resisting the sun’s harmful rays and is very expensive. Therefore your cheaper grades of vinyl do not have as much of this chemical. Watch Out!!
Can vinyl break?
Any fence will break when enough force is applied. However, our vinyl (PVC) profiles are formulated using only the highest quality impact modifiers in precisely engineered amounts to ensure the greatest impact resistance available. Our vinyl (PVC) profiles are engineered to withstand higher impacts than the minimum required by ASTM. Direct impact such as a tree falling on your fence or a vehicle running into it can cause damage. Spokes, pickets or rails are easily replaced if damaged should occur.
How do vinyl fences stand up to the wind?
Our vinyl fences are designed to withstand normal wind loads. The amount of the load is dependent on the style of fence, installation of the posts and horizontal rails. We install all of our fences in concrete. We install aluminum channels in the bottom and/or top rails.
Do vinyl fences and rails become brittle in the winter?
Colder weather does decrease the strength of all vinyl products to some degree. However, this only happens when it is very cold outside. These products are engineered to allow for this.
How do you clean the vinyl?
Any household cleaner will remove light dirt. Light pressure of a Brillo pad will remove heavy dirt. Always go with the grain when using a brillo pad. You do not want to use any abrasive cleaner. A pressure washer can also be used.
How does a vinyl fence hold up to weed eaters?
We have fencing here at the office that we must maintain the appearance by weed eating around each post. We have had no damage from the plastic string. We recommend using caution when operating any type of lawn or garden equipment around your fence.
Does vinyl expand?
It is normal for vinyl materials to expand and contract during temperature changes. The installer will allow for expansion and contraction during the installation process.
What is the warranty?
All fences carry a lifetime transferable warranty. After the warranty has been transferred it becomes a 50-year warranty. All railings have a lifetime warranty.
Will the vinyl mildew?
Mildew feeds off of organic materials. Vinyl is non-organic so therefore does not support mildew. Mildew that grows on vinyl is actually feeding off of the organic materials (dirt) that have become embedded or stuck to the vinyl. Under trees and damp weather conditions there may be concern for mildew. Remember with the vinyl it is easier to wash away than paint away. Mold and mildew will not stain the vinyl.
How does the cost of vinyl compare to wood?
The initial cost of vinyl when compared to wood is slightly higher. Over time is where you will see savings. Factors such as having to replace the wood in 5-15 years and yearly maintenance costs such as labor, paint, replacement boards, etc. are not as cost effective in the end. Vinyl will not need painting, have rusty nails, rotting boards or splinters.
Can I paint my vinyl fence or railings?
No, you will void the warranty if you paint your vinyl fence or railings. We offer colors other than white. Ask a sales rep for color samples.
Do you have gates that will match my fence?
Yes, we have gates to match all of our fence styles and some custom gates. We also supply all of the hardware that compliments the gates.
